Gram-negative, rod-shaped cells. Non-motile. Produce ellipsoidal spores in swollen
sporangia. Produce a large capsule.
Growth tempearature10-37 ºC; optimum temperature 30 ºC; no growth at 45 or 50 ºC.
Grows in media containing 1.0-2.0% (w/v) NaCl, but not in 2.5% (w/v) NaCl. Can grow
at pH 6. Grows on nutrient agar and Columbia agar. Obligate aerobe.
Isolated from soil, in Russia.
