Gram-variable, motile (peritrichous flagella) rods, 0.8–1.0 x 2.0–3.0 μm. Produce
ellipsoidal; paracentral/subterminal spores in swollen sporangium.
Colonies on nutrient agar are colourless, semi-transparent,approximately 0.5–1.0
mm in diameter after 72 hours incubation at 30 ºC. Grow both aerobically and
anaerobically. Grow in 0-2% NaCl but not in 5% NaCl medium. Grow at 10-37 ºC, pH
6.5-8.
Isolated from a contaminated laboratory plate. Resistant to sulfamethoxazole plus trimethoprim. Sensitive to ampicillin,
chloramphenicol, gentamicin, kanamycin, nalidixic acid, novobiocin, penicillin G, rifampicin, streptomycin and tetracycline.
Undetermined.

Positive results for catalase, oxidase, DNase, hydrolysis of aesculin, Voges-Proskauer
test, citrate utilization, beta-galactosidase, acid production from: L-arabinose (weak),
D-glucose (weak) and rhamnose.
Negative results for hydrolysis of urea, nitrate reduction, hydrolysis of starch, hydrolysis of casein, hydrolysis of Tween 20, 40, 60 & 80,
hydrolysis of gelatin, lysine decarboxylase, arginine dihydrolase, ornithine decarboxylase, indole production, H2S production, acid
production from: amygdalin, inositol, lactose, D-mannitol, melibiose, sorbitol, sucrose and xylose.
