Jensen et al. 1960, species, type species of the genus.
Gram-negative rods, 3-6 x 1.0-1.2 μm. Non-spore-forming. Motile by a single polar
flagellum. Poly-beta-hydroxybutyrate granules are accumulated.
Colonies on R2A agar medium are yellow, irregular, with curled margins, in nitrogen -
deficient medium changing from white to dark red-brown. Temperature for growth is
10-40 ºC, optimum 20-30 ºC. NaCl range for growth is 0-2%, optimum 1%. pH range
for growth is 5-9, optimum 7.
Isolated from a West Bengal soil. Nitrogen-fixing bacterium.
Resistant to novobiocin and rifampicin. Sensitive to penicillin G, ampicillin, chloramphenicol, gentamicin, kanamycin, tetracycline,
streptomycin, sulfamethoxazole+ trimethoprim and nalidixic acid.
Undetermined.
