Phylum Firmicutes, Class Bacilli, Order Lactobacillales, Family Aerococcaceae, Genus Aerococcus, Aerococcus vaginalis Tohno et
al. 2014.
Gram-positive coccoid cells, non-motile, grouped in pairs, tetrads or small groups.
Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are alpha-hemolytic, nonpigmented, circular, under 1 mm in diameter after
72 h on Columbia blood agar at 37 ºC. After 72 h of cultivation on MRS agar plates at
30 ºC, pinpoint colonies are circular, grey–white or white and under 0.5 mm diameter.
Facultatively anaerobic. Growth is inhibited by 2% oxgall. Growth occurs at 30–45 ºC,
pH 6.0–8.0 and in broth supplemented with 4% NaCl.
Isolated from the vaginal mucosa of a beef cow in Japan.
Undetermined.
