Phylum Firmicutes, Class Bacilli, Order Lactobacillales, Family Aerococcaceae, Genus Dolosicoccus, Dolosicoccus paucivorans
Collins et al. 1999 - single species of the genus.
Gram-positive, ovoid cells occurring singly, in pairs or in short chains. Non-motile.
Non-spore-forming.
Alpha-haemolytic on Columbia agar (Difco) supplemented with 5% horse blood at 37
ºC, in air plus 5% CO2. Facultatively anaerobic. Growth does not occur at 10 or 45 ºC
or in broth containing 6.5 % NaCl. Gas production in MRS broth and bile-aesculin
reactions are negative. Pyruvate is not utilized and 0.04% tellurite is not tolerated. No
dextrans or levans are formed on 5% sucrose agar or broth. No acid or clot is formed
in litmus milk.
Isolated from a human blood sample. Habitat is unknown. Susceptible to vancomycin.
Undetermined.

Microbiology, October 1999 49: 1439-1442.
