Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive cocci, 0.7-1.1 μm in diameter, occuring singly or in pairs, tetrads or
groups. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming. No flagella.
Colonies on Marine Agar are creamy-white, circular, somewhat convex and
non-translucent, glistening surfaces, entire margins and are 1-2 mm in diameter.
Growth occurs at 4-45 ºC (optimally at 30-35 ºC). Optimal pH for growth is 7.0-8.0
(range 5.5-10.5). Optimal growth in 2-5% NaCl (range 0.5-25.0% NaCl). Strictly
aerobic. No diffusible pigments are produced.
Isolated from an intertidal sediment sample collected from Naozhou Island in the South China Sea.
