Gram-positive cocci, nonmotile, nonsporing, occuring singly, in pairs or clusters.
S-type colonies, nonpigmented, 0.8-1.8 mm in diameter after 5 days on P agar. Delta
and beta hemolysis on Columbia sheep blood agar. Growth temperature 15 to 45 ºC.
Grow in 10% NaCl medium but not in 15% NaCl.
Isolated from common voles (Microtus arvalis) in the Czech Republic. Resistant to novobiocin.
Unknown. Isolated from viscera of meadow mice (Microtus arvalis ) with brucellosis (Brucella microti infection). One strain was isolated
from the liver and another strain was isolated from the kidney. The animals were apparently sick, they showed edema of the viscera
and lesions (granulomas, abscesses, adenitis of the inguinal lymph nodes). One of two animals also had orchitis.

Positive results for catalase, nitrate reduction, DNA-ase, Voges-Proskauer test (weak),
esculin hydrolysis, Tween 80 hydrolysis, alkaline phosphatase, beta-galactosidase,
lecithinase, arginine arylamidase, pyrrolidonyl arylamidase, acid production from:
N-acetylglucosamine, fructose, D-glucose, lactose, mannose (weak), sucrose,
trehalose & D-xylose.
Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, urease, gelatinase, caseinase, oxidase, coagulase-rabbit plasma, clumping factor,
alpha-fucosidase, alpha-galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase, alpha-glucosidase, beta-glucosidase, acid production from:
arabinose, cellobiose, maltose, mannitol, melibiose, raffinose, ribose, turanose & xylitol.
