Phylum Firmicutes, Class Bacilli, Order Bacillales, Family Staphylococcaceae, Genus Salinicoccus, Salinicoccus luteus Zhang et al.
Gram-positive cocci, 0.9 μm in diameter, occuring singly, in pairs, tetrads or clumps.
Colonies are orange, circular, opaque and approximately 1.0 mm in diameter after 48
hours at 30 ºC. Aerobic. Moderately halophilic; Growth occurs in media containing
1-25% NaCl; optimum 10% NaCl. Grows at 4-45 ºC; optimal growth at 30 ºC. Grows
in pH 7.0-11.0; optimum pH 8.0-9.0.
Isolated from a desert soil sample collected from Egypt.
