Phylum Firmicutes, Class Bacilli, Order Bacillales, Family Staphylococcaceae, Genus Staphylococcus, Staphylococcus devriesei
Supre et al. 2010.
Gram-positive cocci occuring in pairs or small clusters. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are 3-4 mm in diameter after 48 h of growth on Colombia blood agar with
5% sheep blood at 35 ºC, have a zone of complete haemolysis of 1 mm and are
grey-yellow, yellow or yellow-orange, smooth and glistening. Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from milk (1 strain) and teat apices of dairy cows (9 strains). Sensitive to novobiocin.
