Gram-positive cocci, 0.6–1.1 μm, occuring singly or in pairs, tetrads or clumps. Non-
Colonies are white, circular, convex, smooth, non-translucent with entire margins, 1–2
mm in diameter after incubation at 25 ºC for 3-5 days on Marine Agar supplemented
with 10.0% NaCl. No diffusible pigments are produced. Moderately halophilic: grows
in optimum 10.0% NaCl (range1.0-30.0% NaCl). Optimum pH is 8.5 (range 6.0-10.0).
Optimum growth temperature is 25 ºC (range 5-40 ºC). Strictly aerobic.
Isolated from a brine sample collected from the Yipinglang salt mine in Yunnan, southwest China.
Resistant to gentamicin (10 μg), kanamycin (30 μg), lincomycin (2 μg), polymyxin B (30 μg) and streptomycin (10 μg). Susceptible to
ampicillin (30 μg), chloramphenicol (30 μg), nalidixic acid (20 μg), novobiocin (30 μg), rifampicin (5 μg) and tetracycline (30 μg).

gelatin hydrolysis, H2S production, indole production, lipase (C14), alpha-mannosidase, methyl red test, starch hydrolysis, trypsin,
Tween 20 & 60 hydrolysis, urease, valine arylamidase, acid production from: D-adonitol, L-arabinose, cellobiose, glycerol, D-lactose,
maltose, melezitose, melibiose, raffinose, L-rhamnose, salicin, L-sorbose, sucrose & trehalose.
