Phylum Firmicutes, Class Bacilli, Order Bacillales, Family Staphylococcaceae, Genus Jeotgalicoccus, Jeotgalicoccus aerolatus Martin
et al. 2011.
Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-positive cocci, 1.5-2.0 μm diameter. Non-spore-forming. Non-motile.
Colonies on TSA agar are white, circular and low-convex. Good growth also occurs
on Chapman agar. Grows at 26, 37 and 42 ºC, but not at 4 ºC. Grows in the presence
of 0 and 14 % NaCl, but not 20 % NaCl.
Isolated from air sampled in a turkey house.

Positive results for catalase, oxidase, Voges–Proskauer test, weak acid production
from: D-glucose, L-rhamnose & D-xylose.
Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, ornithine decarboxylase, lysine decarboxylase, nitrate reduction, ONPG hydrolysis (beta-
galactosidase), H2S production, indole production, tyrosine hydrolysis, urease, acid production from: D-adonitol, arabinose,
cellobiose, mannitol, myo-inositol & sucrose.
