Gram-negative, rod-shaped and motile by means of a single polar flagellum.
Colonies are smooth on nutrient agar, circular, nonpigmented and hemolytic (98%of
strains) when grown on blood agar. Produce a fluorescent pigment on both King B &
S1 media. Can grow at low salt concentrations (0.8%) but not at high salt
concentrations (5 or 7%).
Isolated from natural mineral water.

Positive for arginine dihydrolase, esterase C4, alkaline phosphatase, esterase lipase
C), leucine arylamidase, tributyrin esterase (93%of strains), catalase, oxidase, nitrates
reduction to nitrite & acid production from starch. Can utilize D-ribose, D-xylose, L-
rhamnose, D-mannose, D-mannitol, trehalose, 2-Keto-d-gluconate, mucate, malonate,
alpha-aminobutyrate, meso-erythritol, D-sorbitol, myo-Inositol, adonitol, itaconate,
alpha-D-glucose, beta-D-fructose, D-galactose, L-arabinose, sucrose, D-arabitol, glycerol, D-glucosamine, D-saccharate, L-malate,
cisaconitate, citrate, D-glucuronate, D-galacturonate, 5-keto-D-gluconate, N-acetyl d-glucosamine, D-gluconate, protocatechuate,
p-hydroxybenzoate, quinate, betaine, putrescine, DL-lactate, caprate, caprylate, succinate, fumarate, glutarate, DL-glycerate,
3-hydroxybutyrate, L-aspartate, L-glutamate, L-proline, alanine, L-serine, propionate, L-tyrosine & 2-oxoglutarate.

Negative for lysine decarboxylase, ornithine decarboxylase, trypsin, alpha-chymotrypsin, alpha-galactosidase, beta-galactosidase,
beta-glucosidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, beta-glucuronidase, alpha-glucosidase, alpha-mannosidase, alpha-fucosidase,
DNase, coagulase, tetrathionate reductase (95% ofstrains), elastase,  Tween esterase, fibrinolysis, acetyl-methylcarbinol (acetoin),
poly-beta-hydroxybutyrate accumulation.
Negative for the utilization of L-histidine, L-tryptophan, histamine, tryptamine, L-sorbose, alpha-D-melibiose, maltotriose, D-raffinose,
maltose, alpha-lactose, lactulose, 1-O-methyl beta-galactopyranoside, 1-O-methyl alpha-galactopyranoside, D-cellobiose,
