Genus Erysipelothrix
Gram-positive slender rods, non-spore-forming, non-capsulated,
nonmotile, facultative anaerobic, temperature limits of growth 5 to 42
ºC, fermentative activity weak, acid but no gas produced from glucose
and certain other carbohydrates. Negative for catalase, oxidase, indole,
methyl-red, Voges - Proskauer. Organic growth factors are required. H
2S
positive, nitrates not reduced. Widely distributed in nature.  Some
strains may be pathogenic for mammals and birds.

strictly anaerobic, fermentative metabolism, catalase negative,
oxidase negative, indole is not produced and  nitrate is not reduced.
