Phylum Firmicutes, Class Bacilli, Order Lactobacillales, Family Enterococcaceae, Genus Vagococcus, Vagococcus elongatus
Lawson et al. 2007.
Gram-positive cocci, single cells or grouped in pairs, or short chains. Cells are
elongated in the direction of the chain, and some are giving the appearance of short,
fat rods. Non-motile.
Does not produce haemolysis. No growth at 10 ºC or 45 ºC is variable. No growth in
6.5% NaCl broth. Facultatively anaerobic. Lactic acid without gas is produced from
Isolated from a swine-manure storage pit. The natural habitat is unknown.
