Gram-positive, ovoid cocci. Non-motile. Non-spore-forming.
Microaerobic to anaerobic. Optimum growth temperature is 37 ºC. Grows at 15 and 40
ºC, but not at 45 ºC. Optimal pH is 7.5-8.0. Optimal NaCl concentration 7-10%.
Isolated from human clinical sample.
Isolated from ear exudate.

Positive results for acid production from: N-acetylglucosamine, amygdalin, arbutin,
D-arabinose, D-arabitol (weak), cellobiose, D-fructose, D-glucose, D-galactose,
gluconate, gentibiose, lactose, maltose, melibiose, D-mannose, D-ribose, salicin, D-sorbitol, sucrose, trehalose & turanose.

Negative results for catalase, esculin hydrolysis (positive in Ennahar's study), oxidase, acid production from: adonitol, L-arabitol,
L-arabinose, dulcitol, erythritol, D- and L-fucose, glycogen, glycerol, 2-ketogluconate, inositol, inulin, D-lyxose, D-mannitol, melezitose,
raffinose, L-rhamnose, L-sorbose, D-tagatose, D- and L-xylose, xylitol & methyl beta-D-xyloside.
