Gram-positive, coccoid cells, grouped mostly in pairs or short chain. Nonmotile.
Colonies are circular and smooth with entire margins, 1 mm in diameter after 24 h of
cultivation and up to 3-4 mm after 5 days.
Hemolysis is not produced on sheep-blood agar.
Uniform turbidity is produced in BHI broth culture at 37 ºC.
Optimum temperature 37 ºC, grow at 10 ºC but not at 45 ºC. Facultatively anaerobic.
Growth enhanced slightly by cultivation in a 5% CO2 atmosphere. Grow in 6.5% NaCl.
Isolated from spring water in the Czech Republic (Moravia).

D-arabinose, D- or L-xylose, adonitol, methyl beta-xyloside, rhamnose, dulcitol, sorbitol, methyl alpha-D-mannoside, melibiose,
inulin, xylitol, D-lyxose, D-or L-fucose, D- or L-arabitol, gluconate, 2- or 5-ketogluconate, L-sorbose, D-raffinose & glycogen.
Variable results for alpha-galactosidase, beta-galactosidase, pyrrolidonyl arylamidase & acid production from inositol & starch.
