Phylum Actinobacteria, Class Actinobacteria, Order Micrococcales, Family Micrococcaceae, Genus Arthrobacter, Arthrobacter
nasiphocae Collins, Hoyles, Foster, Falsen and Weiss, 2002.
Gram-positive irregular-shaped rods, coccoid forms may be observed. Spores are
Colonies are greyish-white, smooth; 1 mm in diameter after 24 h of incubation at 37
ºC on blood agar. No haemolysis. Strictly aerobic. . Grows at 25 and 42 ºC. Can grow
in 5% NaCl, but not in 10% NaCl.
Isolated from the nasal cavities of common seal (Phoca vitulina) in mixed culture with Corynebacterium phocae, Pseudomonas
aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase-negative staphylococci.
