Chitinibacter fontanus
Colonies on R2A agar after 48 h incubation at 25 ºC are milky white, circular and
slightly convex with entire edges, 0.7-1.2 mm in diameter. Strictly aerobic. Growth
occurs at 10-37 ºC (optimum 25-30 ºC), at pH 6.0-8.0 (optimum pH 6.0-7.0) and with
0-2% NaCl (optimum 0-1% NaCl).

Gram-negative rods, 0.4-0.6 x 0.9-1.4 μm. Motile by a single polar flagellum.  Poly-
beta-hydroxybutyrate accumulation is observed.
Isolated from a spring in the vicinity of Miaoli County, Taiwan.
Sensitive to chloramphenicol, kanamycin, nalidixic acid, novobiocin, rifampicin, sulphamethoxazole + trimetoprim, tetracycline,
streptomycin, gentamicin and resistant to ampicillin and penicillin G.
Undetermined.
