Growth occurs at 03-38 ºC. Cannot grow anaerobically with nitrate. Grows in the
presence of 1% bile, but growth is inhibited by 1% glycine or 1% NaCl. Grows on EMB,
Seller and TSI agars. No growth on MacConkey agar or in MRVP broth. A fluorescent
pigment is produced. No pigment is produced from aromatic amino acids.

Gram-negative, helical cells, 1.1-1.3 / 4.0-11.0 μm. Motile by bipolar flagella.
Intracellular poly-beta-hydroxybutyrate is formed. Coccoid bodies are not formed.
Isolated from putrid infusion of freshwater shellfish.
