No growth occurs in the presence of 3% NaCl, 1% oxgall or 1% glycine. Aerobic.
Psychrophilic, optimal growth temperature 5 ºC, growth temperature range is 0-20 ºC.
Can grow at pH 5.5-7.6. Yellow-green fluorescent pigments are not produced. No
brown pigments produced in media with 0.1% tyrosine or 0.1% tryptophan. No growth
on EMB agar, MacConkey agar, MR-VP broth, and Sellers agar. Can grow on TSI agar.
No alkaline reaction in litmus milk.
Phylum Proteobacteria, Class Betaproteobacteria, Order Neisseriales, Family Chromobacteriaceae, Genus Aquaspirillum,
Aquaspirillum arcticum Butler et al. 1990.
Gram-negative, helical cells, 1.0 / 3.0-7.0 μm. Motile by a single polar flagellum.
Intracellular poly-beta-hydroxybutyrate is formed.
Isolated from Arctic sediment; other habitats unknown.
