No growth occurs in the presence of 3% NaCl, 1% oxgall or 1% glycine. Aerobic.
Growth temperature 3-36 ºC, 27-30 ºC optimum. Can grow at pH 6.0-8.5.
Yellow-green fluorescent pigments not produced. No brown pigments produced in
media with 0.1% tyrosine or 0.1% tryptophan. No growth on EMB agar, MacConkey
agar, TSI and Sellers agar. No alkaline reaction in litmus milk.

Positive results for catalase, H2S production from 0.2% cysteine, oxidase, phosphatase. Can utilize as sole carbon source: L-aspartate,
L-glutamate. Ammonium salts can be used as sole nitrogen sources; nitrate is not used.

Negative results for casein hydrolysis, denitrification, DN-ase, esculin hydrolysis, gelatin hydrolysis (4 days incubation at 30 ºC)
hippurate hydrolysis, indole production, starch hydrolysis, urease, acid production from: fructose, glucose & ribose.

Cannot utilize as sole carbon source: L-histidine, L-tryptophan, glycine, citrate, aconitate, isocitrate, alpha-ketoglutarate, succinate,
