Species description is based on a single isolate.
Gram-negative rods, 0.5-0.7 µm x 1.2-4.5 μm. Motile by a single polar flagellum. Non-
spore-forming.
Colonies on R2A after 2 days incubation are white, circular and convex with clear
margins.Aerobic. Grows at 10-42 ºC  and with 5% (w/v) NaCl. Grows on tryptic soy
agar, Luria–Bertani agar, nutrient agar and cetrimide agar.
Grows chemolithoautotrophically with thiosulfate, tetrathionate, sulfur and sulfite but
not with thiocyanate. Yeast extract or vitamins are not required for growth.
Isolated from rhizosphere soils of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) in Jung ha-dong, Republic of Korea.
Sensitive to ampicillin, kanamycin, chloramphenicol and trimethoprim. Resistant to nalidixic acid.
Thiosulfate-oxidizing bacteria. Elemental sulfur is deposited extracellularly during growth on media containing thiosulfate.
Undetermined.
