Phylum Firmicutes, Class Bacilli, Order Bacillales, Family Bacillaceae, Genus Bacillus, Bacillus canaveralius Newcomb, Dekas,
Mayilraj and Venkateswaran 2009.
Gram-positive, motile rods, 1.0 x 3-5 µm in diameter, producing terminal, oval
endospore in swollen sporangia.
Colonies are beige, with entire margin and a raised elevation. Strictly aerobic. Grow at
pH 7-10.5 (optimum pH 7.5) and in 0.5-15% NaCl media. Temperature range 15-45
ºC, (optimum temperature 32 ºC).
Isolated from walls and floors of the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, FL, USA.
