Gram-variable rods, 0.5–0.8x 3–6 μm. Motile by peritrichous flagella.
Produce ellipsoidal spores in swollen sporangia.
Colonies are creamish-yellow, flat, smooth, entire, 1-2 mm diameter on nutrient agar
with 5 % glucose.  Aerobic, facultatively anaerobic.
Mesophilic, growth temperature 10 to 50 ºC, optimum 37 ºC. Grow at pH 5.7 and 7
(optimum). No growth in 5% NaCl media.
Isolated from textile industrial waste water. Habitat unknown. Completely decolorize the azo dye Remazol Black B (25-400 mg/L)
within 24 hours. Resistant to 0.001% lysozyme.

Positive results for catalase, hydrolysis of gelatin, hydrolysis of starch, H2S, acid
production from: cellobiose, fructose, galactose, D-glucose, glycerol, inulin, lactose,
maltose, mannose, D-mannitol, melezitose, melibiose, ribose, salicin, starch,
sucrose, trehalose & D-xylose.

Negative results for oxidase, hydrolysis of urea, hydrolysis of casein, nitrate reduction, indole production, Voges-Proskauer,
dihydroxyacetone, degradation of tyrosine, citrate utilization, acid production from: adonitol, L-arabinose, inositol, sorbitol, sorbose &
rhamnose.
