Phylum Proteobacteria, Class Betaproteobacteria, Order Burkholderiales, Family Alcaligenaceae, Genus Paracandidimonas,
Paracandidimonas soli Kampfer et al. 2017, type species of the genus.
Gram-negative rods, 0.5 x 1.5 μm. Motile. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies show a yellowish beige, slightly glistening appearance, 2 mm in diameter,
when cultivated on nutrient agar at 30 ºC. Optimum temperature range is 20-25 ºC. No
growth below 10 ºC or above 45 ºC. Can grow in the presence of 0.5-6.0 % (w/v) NaCl,
optimum 1-2% (w/v) NaCl. Can grow on brain heart infusion agar, TSA and R2A agar.
Facultatively anaerobic.
Isolated from soil of a field in Malvern, AL, USA, that has been used for cultivating earthworms (for use as fish bait).

Can utilize (weakly): acetate, cisaconitate, trans-aconitate, citrate, fumarate, glutarate, DL-lactate, malate, 2-oxoglutarate, pyruvate,

Negative results for alkaline phosphatase, arginine dihydrolase, casein hydrolysis, DNA hydrolysis, gelatin hydrolysis,
beta-galactosidase, indole production, H
2S production, lysine decarboxylase, ornithine decarboxylase, starch hydrolysis, tyrosine
hydrolysis & urease.
No acid production from: D-glucose, maltose, trehalose, L-arabinose, adonitol, D-arabitol, dulcitol, erythritol, i-inositol, lactose,
D-mannitol, melibiose, methyl alpha-D-glucoside, raffinose, L-rhamnose, salicin, D-sorbitol & D-xylose.
No utilization of: N-acetylgalactosamine, N-acetylglucosamine, L-arabinose, cellobiose, D-galactose, maltose, D-glucose, gluconate,
D-mannose, D-fructose, glycerol, D-mannitol, maltitol, melibiose, L-rhamnose, D-ribose, salicin, sucrose, D-xylose, adonitol,
i-inositol, D-sorbitol, putrescine, 4-aminobutyrate, adipate, azelate, DL-3-hydroxybutyrate, itaconate, propionate, suberate,
mesaconate, beta-alanine, L-ornithine, L-phenylalanine, L-aspartate, L-histidine, L-leucine, L-tryptophan, 3-hydroxybenzoate,
