Phylum Proteobacteria, Class Betaproteobacteria, Order Burkholderiales, Family Alcaligenaceae, Genus Paenalcaligenes,
Paenalcaligenes suwonensis Moon et al. 2014.
Gram-negative rods, 0.5-0.7 x 1.0-1.8 μm. Motile by polar flagella. Non-spore-forming.
Colonies are light yellow, smooth, circular and convex with entire edges on R2A
medium. Growth occurs on R2A, TSA, LB, NA and MacConkey agar. Grows at 10-40
ºC (optimum 28 ºC), at pH 5-9 (optimum pH 7.0) and in the presence of 0
-5% (w/v)
NaCl (optimum, 0%). Aerobe.
Isolated from spent mushroom compost, a waste product of button mushroom cultivation.

Can assimilate: D-glucose, L-arabinose, N-acetylglucosamine, potassium gluconate, adipic acid, malic acid, trisodium citrate,
phenylacetic acid, sucrose, itaconic acid, sodium acetate, lactic acid, L-alanine, propionic acid, 3-hydroxybutyric acid & L-proline.
