Phylum Proteobacteria, Class Betaproteobacteria, Order Burkholderiales, Family Alcaligenaceae, Genus Candidimonas,

Gram-negative coccobacilli, 0.50 µm. Non-motile.
Colonies are white, circular, 1 mm diameter, convex and rough on PCA after 48 h
incubation. Growth occurs at 15-40 ºC (optimally at 30 ºC), at pH 5-8 (optimally at pH
7) and in the presence of up to 3% (w/v) NaCl (optimally at 1% (w/v) NaCl). Unable to
grow anaerobically.
Isolated from sewage sludge compost.

Positive results for acid andalkaline phosphatase, catalase, alpha-chymotrypsin,
esterase (C4), esterase lipase (C8), leucine arylamidase, oxidase, valine arylamidase
& naphthol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase.
Can  assimilate: adipate, citrate (Simmons citrate is not utilized), phenylacetate, itaconic acid, sodium acetate, lactic acid,
3-hydroxybenzoic acid, propionic acid, valeric acid, trisodium citrate, 2-ketogluconate & 3-hydroxybutyric acid.

Negative results for arginine dihydrolase, cystine arylamidase, esculin hydrolysis, alpha-fucosidase, gelatinase, alpha- and
beta-galactosidase, beta-glucuronidase, alpha- and beta-glucosidase, N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, H
2S production, indole
production, lysine decarboxylase,  lipase (C14), alpha-mannosidase, nitrate reduction, ornithine decarboxylase, tryptophan
deaminase,  trypsin, urease, Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from glucose.

No assimilation of: D-glucose, L-arabinose, D-mannose, D-mannitol, N-acetylglucosamine, maltose, malate, potassium gluconate,
L-rhamnose, D-ribose, inositol, sucrose, suberic acid, sodium malonate, L-alanine, 5-ketogluconate, glycogen, L-serine, salicin,
melibiose, L-fucose, D-sorbitol, capric acid, L-histidine, 4-hydroxybenzoic acid & L-proline.
