Phylum Proteobacteria, Class Betaproteobacteria, Order Burkholderiales, Family Alcaligenaceae, Genus Bordetella, Bordetella
sputigena Vandamme et al. 2015.
Gram-negative small rods with rounded ends, 0.2 x 1.2 μm, occuring single or in
Colonies are slightly convex, translucent and non-pigmented, with smooth margins,
and 0.5-1 mm in diameter after 72 h of incubationon trypticase soy agar at 28 ºC.
Weakly haemolytic on horse blood agar. Weakly growth on cetrimide agar. No growth
Can grow at 30, 37 and 42 ºC. Growth occurs in nutrient broth with 3% NaCl (not in
4% NaCl). No fluorescence on King’s B medium. Aerobic and anaerobic growth.
Isolated from sputum of cystic fibrosis patient in Sweden.
