Phylum Firmicutes, Class Bacilli, Order Lactobacillales, Family Aerococcaceae, Genus Facklamia, Facklamia sourekii Collins et al.
Gram-positive, ovoid cells, 0.8–0.9 µm in diameter, occurring in pairs or short chains.
Colonies on Columbia agar (Difco) supplemented with 5% horse blood at 37 ºC are
alpha-haemolytic and non-pigmented. Facultatively anaerobic. Grows in 5% NaCl.
Isolated from human clinical samples (haemoculture of a 72-year-old man). Habitat is unknown.

Variable results for acid phosphatase, alkaline phosphatase & cystine arylamidase activity.
