Gram-positive straight to slightly curved rods. Non-motile. Non-acid-fast.
Grows on horse blood Columbia agar (Difco) at 37 ºC in air plus 5% CO2. Facultative
Isolated from human clinical sources (urogenital tract: urine, vaginal secretion, urethra).
Habitat is not known but it is possible a commensal of the human vagina.
It is not known if the bacteria is a cause of urogenital disease.

Positive results for esculin hydrolysis, alpha- and beta-galactosidase, beta-galacturonidase, alpha- and beta-glucosidase,
N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, leucine arylamidase, nitrate reduction, pyroglutamic acid arylamidase, pyrrolidonyl arylamidase, valine
arylamidase, acid production from: arabitol (weak reaction), D-glucose, lactose, maltose, melezitose, melibiose, raffinose, sucrose
(saccharose), trehalose and xylose.
Negative results for acid phosphatase, arginine dihydrolase, catalase, chymotrypsin, esterase C-4, ester lipase C8,
alpha-fucosidase,gelatin hydrolysis, beta-glucuronidase, hippurate hydrolysis, lipase C14, beta-mannosidase, pyrazinamidase,
trypsin, urease, acid production from: cyclodextrin, glycogen, pullulan, sorbitol and tagatose.
Variable results for alkaline phosphatase, cystine arylamidase, alpha-mannosidase, Voges-Proskauer test, acid production from:
L-arabinose, mannitol, methyl-beta-D-glucopyranoside and ribose.
